About us

A home where Caribbean talent can stay and build

Fundación Código Abierto is a nonprofit in Barranquilla that brings tech education, community and job opportunities to people who have never had access to them. This is our mission, our manifesto and the people behind the movement.

Our mission

Why the Foundation exists

We empower communities in Atlántico and the Colombian Caribbean with education and access to technology and artificial intelligence. We turn technology into culture through free events, scholarships and job opportunities, prioritizing young people and women from low-income, rural and marginalized communities, so the region becomes a tech epicenter built from within.

  1. The diagnosis

For years, Latin America's tech map was drawn in other cities, and the Colombian Caribbean was left off it. Not for lack of talent: there are universities, creativity and people eager to build here. What was missing was ecosystem infrastructure: sustained communities, up-to-date education, first job opportunities and a story of our own to tell.

But there is a deeper gap than the one on the map. Even within the region, technology reaches those who already have access first. A young person from a stratum 1 neighborhood in Soledad, a woman who has never written a line of code or a student from San Basilio de Palenque rarely see themselves in this industry. If the Caribbean becomes a tech hub and they're left out, we won't have changed anything.

  2. What we believe

Technology is the industry of opportunity, and artificial intelligence changed the rules: today you can learn faster and build more with fewer resources. That same wave can open doors or widen the gap. It depends on who gets there in time.

We believe a life doesn't change with a one-off course, but with three things together: learning, having a community that supports you and a real first job opportunity. And we believe this is built with the people of the territory; it isn't imported.

A life changes where three things meet: learning, a supportive community and a first job.
  3. The thesis: a tech epicenter built from within

We want the Colombian Caribbean to be a Latin American tech epicenter, with its own character, talent and way of relating to the world. But we measure it by who gets in: how many people who never had access to technology now learn, work or build companies in it.

That's why we prioritize young people and women from low-income, rural and marginalized communities. It isn't a program on the margins of the ecosystem: it's the reason the Foundation exists.

  4. The next wave: no one left behind

Behind software comes a deeper wave: robotics and physical artificial intelligence. Barranquilla was Colombia's industrial capital and still has that DNA: a port, logistics and technical trades. Many of those jobs are going to change. We want the region's workers and young people to be ready, as protagonists of that change rather than spectators.

  5. What the Foundation does

Fundación Código Abierto is a nonprofit based in El Prado, Barranquilla. Our work is turning technology into culture and into concrete opportunities. We also organize Barranqui-IA and TechCaribe, and we work with communities such as GDG Barranquilla and TechQueens.

    • Free events

      Tech Nights

Every month they bring the community together to learn and connect, at no cost to attendees.

    • Scholarships

      Training with AI

In 2024, with the Atlántico Governor's Office, 60 people from strata 1 to 3 learned software development with AI. Six months later, 80% were working in tech.

    • Jobs

      Job search support

After the training we support each person with their résumé, LinkedIn, job applications and interviews.

    • Territory

      Kuagro Tech

We bring programming and artificial intelligence training to San Basilio de Palenque.

  6. Who we work with

An ecosystem needs more than a foundation. To cover education, innovation and capital, we work with three partner companies that are separate from the Foundation and have their own business models.

The Foundation's founders hold stakes in some of them, and we'd rather say so upfront. That's why we work with them at market prices, and social programs and scholarships are always run by the Foundation.

The Foundation runs the social programs and scholarships, and works at market prices with three partner companies: Tech Centre, Inmercity Labs and Caribe Ventures.

    • Education

      Tech Centre

A tech training company. In 2025 it delivered the 50 scholarships the Foundation managed for women, vulnerable populations and ethnic groups.

    • Innovation

      Inmercity Labs

An applied software and AI lab that builds agents, automations and platforms for businesses.

    • Capital

      Caribe Ventures

A pre-seed fund that invests in tech startups from the region.

  7. The call

If you're young or have never coded: there are free events, scholarships and a community ready to welcome you. If you're a developer, a mentor or part of the diaspora: your experience can open the door for someone else. If you're a company: hire local talent and sponsor scholarships. If you're a government or international cooperation agency: there's a serious local counterpart here to bring training and jobs to the territories.

A tech epicenter is only worth it if the whole Caribbean fits in it. That's the work of Fundación Código Abierto, and we do it with the community.

    Anuar Harb

    Co-founder · CTO

He has spent ten years in tech and leads Google Developer Group Barranquilla. He was born in Mexico and life brought him here; ever since he learned the difference between a chuzo and a salchipapa, he has felt like a true barranquillero.

With vision and a healthy dose of madness, he builds the ecosystem from Fundación Código Abierto, alongside partner companies such as Tech Centre, Caribe Ventures and Inmercity Labs.

The cause

Why we do this

Technology is the industry of opportunity. We work from the Caribbean so that people who train here can stay, build and leave something behind.

  1. So talent doesn't have to leave

For years the story was: get trained, then emigrate. We want people who learn in the house to be able to work, build companies and scale without leaving the region.

  2. Because access doesn't arrive on its own

Technology reaches those who already have access first. That's why we prioritize young people and women from low-income, rural and marginalized communities, with free events, scholarships and job search support.

  3. Because it changes real lives

Every scholarship, Tech Night and program truly moves someone forward. More than 100 people trained with us now work in tech.
